The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Hotline telephone number is being used as part of a scam. The scam involves a group making calls to beneficiaries posing as representatives of the hotline in order to obtain personal information. The HHS OIG Hotline was started for inbound calls only and does not make outbound calls.
If a member reports having been contacted by the HHS OIG Hotline:
- Let them know the HHS OIG Hotline is aware of the issue and are working to resolve it
- Ask them to report the information through the HHS OIG Hotline at 1-800-HHS-TIPS (447-8477) or via email at [email protected]
- If the caller wishes to file a complaint, advise them to contact the Federal Trade Commission 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357)
- Apologize for any inconvenience or confusion
