On Wednesday, October 11th, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced 2019 Medicare Stars Quality Ratings (Stars) for Medicare Advantage plans. Cigna-HealthSpring is pleased to announce they achieved an overall corporate star rating of 4.5 Stars for 2019!
Their Stars score is reflective of the efforts their Customer Service, Clinical and Quality teams put in every day, with the customer as the focus. If you’re not familiar with Stars, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) uses a Star rating system to measure how well Medicare Advantage and Part D plans perform on quality and customer service. Ratings range from one to five stars, with five being the highest and one being the lowest.
With these results, 76% of our customers will be in a 4-Star rated plan or higher nationally for the 2019 calendar year – and 73% of Cigna-HealthSpring customers will be in a 4.5-Star rated plan or higher. Please click here to view specific Star Ratings by contract.
Cigna-HealthSpring attributes their positive results to a number of factors, including:
- Their Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) scores: CAHPS is a survey of patients rating their health care experiences. At Cigna-HealthSpring, their CAHPS weighted Star average moved from a 3.5 average, to a 4-Star average, which is a tremendous result reflecting their continuous improvement in customer satisfaction and outcomes.
- HEDIS rates: HEDIS is a set of clinical metrics established by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) that measure the quality of clinical care and outcomes that Cigna-HealthSpring customers receive. As an organization, Cigna-HealthSpring consistently perform at a high level on HEDIS and continued to make incremental improvements this year with a weighted Star average of 4.5.
Cigna-HealthSpring is proud of these achievements! If you have any questions about what these rating mean for the markets you serve, please reach out to your Broker Sales Representative or Account Manage.
