On Jan. 14, 2019, CVS Health* announced that Walmart has opted to leave the CVS Caremark commercial network, which affects all of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s and BlueChoice HealthPlan’s commercial business currently with CVS Health — including their ACA plans. The only exception is the Medicare Advantage and Part D pharmacy network, which is unaffected by this change.
Walmart’s Sam’s Club division remains in the CVS Caremark pharmacy networks for all lines of business.
CVS Health has requested that Walmart continue to fill prescriptions as an in-network participating pharmacy through April 30, 2019, and is awaiting confirmation from Walmart.
CVS Health will notify any members this change impacts to help them avoid any disruption in therapy and transition easily to a new pharmacy. This notice will include information to help members identify nearby in-network pharmacies where they can fill their prescriptions. Most Walmart stores are in close proximity to at least one other network pharmacy.
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is working to determine how many of their members this will affect and will pass on additional information as appropriate.
