Inflation Reduction Act Timelines

Per Medicare and You 2023, beginning January 1, 2023, consumers who missed enrolling in Medicare when eligible due to special circumstances may be able to sign up for Medicare during a Special Enrollment Period. Consumers should contact Medicare for more information.

Also, beginning January 1, 2023, CMS has changed the General Enrollment Period. The General Enrollment Period is still from January 1 - March 31 each year; however, the Medicare coverage will begin the month following Medicare enrollment. Previously the Medicare effective date was July 1.

  • To be eligible to use OEP/OEP-New (page 4), a beneficiary must be active in a Medicare Advantage plan. They may make one change to another Medicare Advantage plan or may return to Original Medicare (with or without a PDP) annually January 1 - March 31 and within the three (3) month window that begins with the date of Medicare Entitlement.
  • Beneficiaries with Medicaid and/or Low Income Subsidy (Extra Help) (pages 9-10) and not experienced a change in subsidy status have a SEP to make one plan change per quarter for the first three quarters of each year. Usage of the SEP is based on application date during Jan.-Mar., Apr.-June, and July-Sept. Beneficiaries deemed ‘‘potential at-risk” or ‘‘at-risk” for certain medication abuse are NOT eligible to use this SEP.
