Anthem: lmportant Reminder About Client and Prospect Interactions
Members or prospects are NOT required to provide their personal information, such as a Social Security Number (SSN) or Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI), in order for you to provide them with plan information or details.
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), brokers and agents representing Medicare plans are NOT allowed to ask their clients or prospects for personal information (like their Medicare, Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers) over the phone unless it’s needed to verify membership, determine enrollment eligibility, or process an enrollment request. You may always ask for this information but it is not required until the prospect decides to enroll.
Non-compliance of this or any CMS regulation will result in corrective action, up to and including termination of contract.
For additional detail, review the Marketing Rules for Medicare Plans.
All agencies and brokers selling Medicare Advantage and/or Part D plans must adhere to all CMS requirements and guidelines.
